Tastes of Community

Community installation
Year: 2024

Tastes of Community is a mobile table installation that explores the rich and diverse world of community kitchens. Community kitchens are more than places to eat; they are vibrant hubs where people come together to cook, share stories, and support one another. Our project ‘Tastes of Community’ maps the diverse kitchens in Wageningen and their unique contributions to society. Over the summer, we travelled to different community kitchens in town and gave a storytelling & art workshop followed by a communal meal. We also participated in the largest communal meal in Wageningen’s history the ‘Dinner on the Dike. Through sound recording, embroidery and lino prints we ask the locals to respond to the question ‘what communal meals mean to you?’. Our experiences and conversations inspired the making of a mobile installation with a pop-up kitchen table, a collectively created tablecloth and reused glasses featuring the names of everyone who contributed to the installation. A table that will serve as a meeting ground, wherever it will go from here.
